Smart Gallery Filtering & Contextual Sorting
Isolate keepers, hero frames, star ratings, camera metadata, and subjects using multi-signal filters and context-aware sorting on your workstation.
Focused Studio Culling
Reviewing thousands of photos from a full wedding day or sports event can overwhelm your visual focus if all images remain visible at once. Effective culling requires narrowing your view so you can concentrate on specific segments of a shoot without distraction.
BestShots provides a powerful filtering and sorting system that lets you isolate high-priority frames, organize burst sequences, and zero in on specific subjects or gear setups.
Multi-Signal Filter Dimensions
You can combine multiple criteria simultaneously to slice your catalog down to the exact frames you need to review:
1. Curation Status
- Hero Frames: Displays only the top-ranked standout image from each burst sequence.
- Keepers: Shows all approved keeper photos rated for delivery or further editing.
- Unreviewed: Isolates frames that have not yet received a human decision.
- Discards: Displays rejected photos so you can double-check them before running cleanups.
2. Star Ratings
Filter by exact star values (1 to 5 stars) or set comparative thresholds (such as 3 stars or higher) to isolate your top tier of client deliverables.
3. Camera Bodies & Optical Metadata
- Camera Body: Isolate files shot on specific bodies when coordinating multi-photographer teams (such as separating primary shooter and second shooter files).
- Lenses & Focal Lengths: Filter by specific lenses (such as an 85mm prime or a 70-200mm telephoto) to group portrait sets or action sequences.
- Exposure Brackets: Filter by aperture or high ISO settings to review low-light reception images separately.
4. Key Persons & Subject Combinations
Filter by identified subjects across your shoot. You can select an individual (such as "Bride") or combine multiple subjects to isolate shared portraits (such as "Bride" and "Groom").
Context-Aware Sorting Behaviors
The sorting controls adapt intelligently depending on how your gallery is currently organized:
When Grouped by "Similar Shots" (Burst Stacks)
- Stack Size (Photo Count): Places your largest continuous high-speed bursts at the beginning of the gallery. This lets you make high-impact cuts through heavy action bursts first.
- Quality Score: Sorts burst stacks by the quality score of their designated Hero frame, presenting your sharpest and most compelling moments first.
- Curation Confidence: Highlights stacks where automated evaluations have high certainty, letting you review clear winners with single keystrokes.
When Viewed Flat or Chronologically
- Capture Time: Sequences photos in chronological order from the beginning of the shoot to the end, preserving natural narrative flow.
- Star Rating: Sorts images from highest rating to lowest rating for quick portfolio review.
- Filename: Sorts by original camera sequence numbers.
Session Persistence Across Your Workstation
Your active filter settings, sorting modes, and grouping choices remain saved in your browser throughout your editing session. When you open a photo in the full-screen inspector and return to the gallery grid, your filtered view remains exactly as you left it, ensuring uninterrupted culling flow.
Tip
Begin by filtering for Hero Frames Only and sort by Capture Time. This lets you review the complete narrative arc of the day in a fraction of the time before dipping into deeper burst stacks.
